Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the software on more than one computer?
Each computer requires its own separate license. If you need to use the software on multiple computers, you must purchase a license for each one. Licenses are not transferable between computers unless specified in your licensing agreement.
How can I view a report without printing?
Many reports have a built-in option to view them on-screen before printing. However, if a report does not offer this option, you can print it to a PDF file instead. This allows you to view the report digitally without needing to print a hard copy.
There are various PDF creation tools available, but we recommend pdfFactory for its affordability and ease of use. With pdfFactory, you can preview the report before printing, save it as a PDF for future reference, or delete the file if printing is unnecessary. You can find more information and purchase pdfFactory at www.fineprint.com.
I cannot access my network or mapped drives within the Romac applications.
In some cases, particularly on Windows 10 installations, network drives or mapped drives may not appear within Romac Series 8 applications. This issue is often due to system settings related to network permissions or drive mapping configurations.
For troubleshooting and suggested solutions, please refer to our detailed guide:

What is kerf allowance?
Kerf allowance refers to the width of material removed during the cutting process. When a cutting tool (such as a saw, laser, or plasma cutter) makes a cut, it removes a small amount of material—this removed portion is called the kerf. The width of the kerf varies depending on the cutting method and tool used. Accurately accounting for kerf allowance ensures precise cuts and minimizes material waste.
What is squaring allowance?
Squaring allowance is the amount of material removed to ensure clean, straight edges before cutting pieces to final dimensions.
- For Length Nesting: This refers to the material removed from both ends of the “cut from” stock if squaring cuts are needed to ensure precise lengths.
- For Plate Nesting: This refers to the material removed from all four edges of the plate to create square, clean sides before cutting the nested pieces.
Squaring allowance is essential for achieving accurate dimensions and eliminating inconsistencies caused by rough or uneven stock edges.
What is "rotate allowed"?
In Plate Nesting, the “rotate allowed” setting determines whether a “to cut” piece can be rotated 90 degrees to optimize material usage.
- If rotation is allowed, the software can rotate pieces to achieve better material efficiency, reducing waste.
- If rotation is not allowed, the piece will remain in its original orientation.
Certain materials, such as grating with bearing bars or materials with a distinct grain direction, should not be rotated to maintain structural integrity or aesthetic consistency. In such cases, disabling rotation ensures that the grain or bearing bar direction remains consistent.
What is maximum shearable length?
The maximum shearable length applies to Plate Nesting when using a shear to cut materials. It defines the longest length that the shear can accommodate in a single cut.
- If using a shear, enter the maximum allowable cutting length.
- If using other cutting methods (such as torch cutting, waterjet, or laser cutting) where cut length is not limited, enter 0 to indicate no restriction.
Setting the correct maximum shearable length helps prevent errors and ensures compatibility with your cutting equipment.
