Setting Up a New Project and Organizing Your Data Directory

Creating a New Project

Each project in ROMAC Production Control is assigned a unique job number and stored in a dedicated data folder.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Launch the program.
  2. Go to Home > Projects > New Project.
  3. Enter a Job Number:
    • Use letters, numbers, and hyphens (e.g., 2025-A1, JOB-101)
    • Maximum length: 12 characters
  4. Click Create.

This creates a new folder named FP_<JobNumber> (e.g., FP_2025-A1) in your default data directory.

Each job folder contains all related files: SBOM, cutting lists, task tracking, shipments, and more.

Opening an Existing Project

To access a previously created job:

  • Go to Home > Projects > Open Project
  • Select the job from the list or browse manually

You can also reopen the most recent job from the home screen.

Unlocking a Project

If you receive a “Job in Use” message:

  1. Confirm no other users are actively working in the job.
  2. Go to Home > Projects > Unlock Project to release the lock.

Use caution: Forcing an unlock while someone else is working in the file may cause data loss or corruption.

Organizing Your Data Directory

All ROMAC job data is stored in self-contained folders prefixed with FP_.

Best Practices:

  • Store all project folders in a single shared location
    Example: \SERVER\ROMAC\Jobs
  • Do not rename or move folders manually
  • Back up folders regularly (see related article)

Recommended Naming Examples:

  • FP_2025-001_MainShop
  • FP_A1234_Revision2

These folders can be copied or archived without requiring export from within ROMAC.

Deleting or Archiving a Project

To permanently delete a project:

  1. Go to Home > Projects > Delete Project
  2. Confirm deletion

Important: Deleted projects cannot be recovered — always back them up first.

To archive a job:

  • Copy the folder to an external drive or cloud storage
  • Remove it from the active job directory
