Managing Remnants with Inventory Control Features

What Is a Remnant?

A remnant is the leftover piece of stock material remaining after parts are cut during nesting. When long enough, these can be saved and reused in future batches.

Enabling Inventory Control

Inventory Control features must be activated for remnant tracking:

  1. Go to Maintenance > Setup – Miscellaneous > System Settings
  2. Check Enable Inventory Control
  3. Save and restart the program

This will unlock additional fields in the Nesting and Materials modules.

Saving Remnants During Nesting

When nesting:

  • Set a Minimum Remnant Length (e.g., 3′-0″)
  • Any remaining material above this value will be tagged as a remnant
  • Remnants can be assigned an ID or barcode for reuse tracking

You can print remnant tags directly from the nesting output screen.

Adding Remnants to Stock for Future Batches

To reuse saved remnants:

  1. Go to Tools > Nesting > Load Stock Table
  2. Click Add Remnant
  3. Enter:
    • Length
    • Shape Code
    • Spec
    • ID (if applicable)
  4. Save to include it in future nesting runs

ROMAC will automatically prioritize remnants before using full-length stock.

Viewing and Managing Saved Remnants

Use the Remnant Table to:

  • See available remnants by shape, spec, and length
  • Remove old remnants
  • Track usage history (if barcode/inventory tag system is enabled)

Tips for Effective Remnant Use

  • Use clear ID conventions for quick identification (e.g., RM-TS4x2x1/4-48in)
  • Review remnant table regularly to avoid overstock
  • Set minimum usable lengths based on machine limitations
